Chinese government $320,000 in just four days after adopting video conferencing

The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in China has acquired and deployed a video conferencing system to accelerate the development it’s 175 research projects for 2011 and 2012. Video conferencing has allowed the Ministry to save the travel costs of the 175 meetings which would roughly amount to $320,000. The video conferencing solution also saved the Ministry months and months of reunions and allowed them to be conducted in only four days.
The Ministry has established 10 meeting rooms for the experts in Beijing and 25 meeting rooms all over China. This allowed the experts to conduct the 175 interviews without leaving the capital and review the projects in four days, which translate in an average of 44 meetings per day.
“We benefited from a large-scale video network connecting participants in over 20 provinces dispersed across the country, providing a reliable guarantee for 175 multimedia conferences,” said the Ministry.
Before the implementation of the video conferencing solution, the personnel was required to travel and meet with review panels in order to evaluate applications and processes for research projects which would eventually lead to months lost in the process along with the high costs associated with travelling.
The Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology use of video conferencing solutions to save time and money is the perfect example of what video conferencing can do for governments and agencies all over the world.
By embracing video conferencing technology, governments can, as the Chinese government did, reduce time and costs associated with evaluation panels and review committees increasing productivity and enhancing research.
